Hello, my name is Zion, better known as Uno Out. I am a person who always seems to look at things differently. As such, I looked to art as my outlet to these abstract and controversial expressions. I first started drawing with my uncle, and learned to sew from my mom. I've always looked for new ways to do things and communicate my ideas to my audiences. I have become unique in being myself and branching out from the system corporate America has for the design industry.
As of late I have worked with the Office of Equity and Engagement at the City of Grand Rapids, the Black History Service in Grand Rapids, the 2023 I Am Great Youth Leadership Summit and Grand Rapids Initiative for Leaders, just to name a few.
As a graphic designer and multidisciplinary artist, I love exploring the connection between self-expression and creativity. My mission is to foster and inspire creatives by promoting self-indulgence and self-expression. With my art and the community I hope to grow, I seek to shift the meaning of "professional," as many people are excluded because of their hair, skin, sexuality, identity, mental state, and much more. The "professional" spaces I see now in society suppress those who may look different to the good, bad, right, or wrong that has been in place for years. And I am afraid the same is true for the art industry. Designers and artist have become a simple role that seeks to fit the build of current right or wrong trends and past design ideologies, instead of pushing the boundary of what design, simple identity, and conception could look like, by having childlike curiosity and being experimental with the communication of new and old ideas and concepts instead of using the right, wrong, good, or bad concepts of the design industry as strict governing principles, not just suggestions to act as a base front of execution.
My process is all about learning about my colleagues and what they hope to express. I like to learn about their mission and interests to add personality and individuality to my works. I always hope to look outside of the box when I am making a piece. I never want to make something that other people would have thought of or put together in the same way I did. Though, this doesn't mean I'm not guilty of taking heavy inspiration from other artists.
